Driving in the rain

We drove home in the rain yesterday. I shouldn't say "rain" because it was more like a blinding torrential downpour complete with roads being flooded and drivers being spun off into ditches. It was pretty scary. The entire drive home took more than 2 hours when it normally takes us about an hour and twenty-ish minutes. One part of the road was so flooded that people were stuck in two out of the three lanes and so traffic had to come to a screeching halt just to get by in the one lane that was a little less flooded. I haven't seen rain come down like that in forever. It rained the entire weekend, from start to finish too! With the rain, came some pretty bad winds. We could see the semi trucks struggling to stay on the road as the wind tossed them around. We got tossed around too but not as bad as those high profile vehicles. I'm so glad Big C was driving.
His mom told him before he left, "you'd better drive safely -- you've got precious cargo in there!"
Precious cargo in reference to her incubating grandchild... :)
Precious cargo, indeed! I guess we're not the only ones who are eagerly awaiting this little one.
I'm just grateful the three of us made it home safely while driving through the remnants of hurricane Ike.
