beating myself up..

Breastfeeding didn't work out so hot for us.. I wish it had on days like today though.. I wish I didn't know how many ounces Kate was taking in each day. Based on her body weight she's supposed to be taking in 2 to 2.5 ounces per pound of her body weight. Right now that puts her in the category of eating at least 28 ounces per day. She doesn't eat that much though, and there's no forcing her to do so. She's offered 30 or more ounces a day, and she just won't eat that. Today she ate 22 ounces. Well under the recommended amount. She usually goes to sleep at 9 p.m. and then wakes around 4 or 5 a.m. to feed, but it's 1:00 a.m. and she woke to feed early. She only took 3 ounces before spitting out her bottle and refusing to eat any more. She's got to be hungry right?? She usually doesn't wake this early to eat.. It's days like today that make me insane. If I were breastfeeding I wouldn't know about how much she was eating, I would assume that as long as she was pooping and peeing that everything was working.
I feel defeated. I feel like a bad mom because I'm frustrated with my child -- my child who is deciding to not eat or sleep tonight.. which makes this mama a crab.

You're NOT a bad mama. You're a fabulous mama. And because you're so concerned about how much she's eating is proof that you are. If she's not hungry, she's not hungry. Don't worry about her. If she's eating and acting normal, she's fine. Just because she's not eating as much as the doc's tell you, doesn't mean she's doing poorly...she's just not a big eater. She looks pretty darn healthy to me!

Relax. Don't worry. Stop stressing about the amounts. Just pay attention to her and her growth and development. Breathe and know you're a grand mama.

hugs.
