my poor beebs

We had some unfortunate incidences at a playdate today. :( I feel so bad for my little Katiebug. We met with a friend who has a son about the same age as Kate. Unfortunately for Kate she got bit on 4 different occasions, two leaving significant marks and she got kicked and clobbered on with various items leaving behind a goose-egg on her head. I should have left, but I thought the situation would resolve itself. She kept crying and saying "booboo" and the mom would hold her son and tell him "we don't bite our friends" and "we don't kick/hit our friends" but it seemed to be ineffective. It was our first playdate with our new friends, so I couldn't bring myself to leave in fear of offending them. I feel like a bad mom because I should have left to protect my Kate. I wish the mom would have said something like, "son, if you can't use gentle hands, etc then your friends will have to leave".. then I wouldn't have felt awkward if I up and left. I think it will be a long while before we schedule another play-date with these friends, if at all. I understand it can be normal toddler behavior to hit, kick and bite.. but when it's your child bearing the brunt of the brutality it's a little hard to stomach. I suppose that's why I don't schedule many play dates to begin with..
My poor beebs.. :(

What a difficult situation. If it makes you feel any better, we can get together for a playdate any time. I promise not to bite or hit, just hug and hug and hug some more. :)
Miss you!

awww Beth, I totally understand! It is so hard to see your little one hurting and esp wondering if you're doing the right thing. Gwen got hit by one of her friends a while back and I didn't really know what to do!? Shaun told her to tell the kid doing the hitting in a very loud voice YOU DO NOT HIT/BITE/KICK ME! Put Kate in the power position! It really seemed to help Gwen when she was in situations like that. I'd be happy to have a play date with you sometime! My kids are usually pretty pleasant! (they have moments, like all kids, but biting and hitting are not usually happening.) Huge hugs to you and Kate!
