Sleeping habits..

Kate's been giving us the best gift of all.. sleeping longer than a few hours at night! She now goes nite nite around 9 p.m. and she sleeps anywhere from 4 to 8 hours straight. As a growing trend, in the last two weeks most nights we get an average of 4 to 5 hours straight from her before waking for the first feed. For the last 3 weekends in a row she's gone six to eight hours straight without waking. Of course we freaked out the first time she did that, and DH and I raced over to her bassinet to make sure she was still with us. I roused her a little, and she batted her hand at me. DH and I lay awake for the next hour after that waiting for her to wake up. We couldn't believe she had slept for so long and that we were actually waiting for her to wake. She's done that for the last 3 weekends since. During the week though she sleeps about 4-5 hours before waking to feed for the first time. We must wear her out on the weekends, or she reserves the weekends for growth spurts? She started taking naps in her crib during the day, and so far she does pretty well in there. :)
I'll post a picture of my girl in her crib. It was a bittersweet moment putting her in her crib the first time, since it was the same crib we had ready for her big brother. After losing Charlie I'd stare into the empty crib and cry my eyes out. Now I can look down at my sweet baby girl sharing her big brother's crib and smile knowing he's watching over her.

I just read a bit of your blog and I wanted to say congrats on the night of sleep. Your Kate is so sweet. I have a Kayt, too. She is now 19 months old. What a heartwrenching journey you have had. So glad that Jesus blessed you with a sweet little girl to hold in your times of aching.

Have you given any thought to getting the "angel care" monitor? It's a sensor pad that goes under the crib mattress and beeps if there's been no movement (including breathing) for 20 seconds. Just knowing that thing was on helped me get much better sleep with my 2nd and 3rd babies than I ever did with my first. Just a thought. :)
